The City of Bogotá has been recognized internationally as a bicycle friendly city thanks to the improvements made in sustainable transportation during Enrique Peñalosa´s tenure as Mayor of the City between 1998-2001. The City is now getting ready for the 12th anniversary of its Car Free Day. The local ITDP office has helped to develop various bicycle rides in collaboration with the bicycling advocacy group Mesa de la Bicicleta de Bogota. ITDP expects to see hundreds of people out for the occasion, bicycling and enjoying the car-free streets of Bogotá.
