[WEBINAR] Transport Justice: Designing Fair Transportation Systems

transport-justice

About the Webinar
ITDP has been working to more deeply engage with researchers in the transport, urban development, and related sectors in an effort to aid practitioners in the field. To that end, we are hosting a webinar, free and open to the public, with Karel Martens, who will present core elements for transport planning based on principles of justice. His latest book, Transport Justice, highlights how a new paradigm for transport planning can be realized in practice. Martens will discuss how to shift radically from planning focused on transport networks to the people who use those networks. Drawing on philosophies of justice, Martens will make the case that all citizens are entitled to a sufficient level of accessibility. This claim delineates the role of governments: they have the moral duty to act when their citizens experience insufficient accessibility. Martens will illustrate how governments can go about fulfilling their duty by providing practical rules for transport planning at all levels of government.
