Marta Goldsmith has been appointed Chief Operating Officer of the Institute for Transportation and Development Policy (ITDP), beginning July 11th. Ms. Goldsmith joins ITDP from the Urban Land Institute Foundation where she is Senior Vice President. She will manage ITDP’s day-to-day activities, focusing on operational systems and structures, as well as strategic planning for the organization. With over 25 years of experience in urban planning and development, Ms. Goldsmith brings extraordinary skills and know-how in both management and best practices.  “We are delighted to welcome Marta aboard and we are confident that she will help us advance institutionally.  We also look forward to working with her to make the critical connections between sustainable transport and good urban planning and development practices,” said Walter Hook, Executive Director of ITDP.

“ITDP is a dynamic organization with an impressive track record for promoting and implementing sustainable transport in cities around the globe.  As cities move to the forefront of global efforts to mitigate and adapt to climate change, transportation and land-use planning play an essential role in the success of these efforts. I look forward to helping ITDP scale up their activities to meet these challenges,” said Ms. Goldsmith.

She will be leaving her current post as Senior Vice President of the Urban Land Institute Foundation, which supports the activities of the Urban Land Institute. Prior to joining the Foundation staff, Ms. Goldsmith served as ULI senior vice president for community and provost.  In this role, she was responsible for Community Outreach, Advisory Services, Awards and Professional Development. Ms. Goldsmith has also served as ULI’s vice president for land use policy and vice president for international services.
