Site Visit Program
Visiting a successful demonstration project like Guangzhou BRT can powerfully influence decision makers, such as the Mayors of Lanzhou, Yichang and Tianjing, who decided to build BRT after their visits.
ITDP China organizes a regular site visit program for delegations from cities and organizations in China and around the world. The site visit program includes both on-site technical briefings and off-site presentations. In 2012, for example, more than 70 delegations from 90 cities visited the Guangzhou BRT and related urban transport and development improvement projects; and these are just the ones ITDP was informed about or involved in- many more occur without our knowledge. As a direct result of these visits, many cities initiated BRT projects, including major cities such as Wuhan, Chengdu, Tianjin, Changsha, Yichang, and Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia).
In addition to the site visit and technical briefing program, ITDP China has carried out formal short training programs for the Asian Development Bank (in 2012 and 2013), the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), and several city government delegations in the past. These two-day short courses cover a range of topics in sustainable transportation in addition to BRT.
