John Shauri

Country Manager, Tanzania

Before joining the Institute for Transport Development and Policy ( ITDP), Eng. Shauri John worked as the Director of Operation and Infrastructure Management in the Dar Rapid Transit Agency (DART) from 2013 to 2018 focusing on the engagement of BRT service operators, monitoring the development of DART infrastructure to ensure conformity with the approved system designs; implement the strategic business plan and framework document and participated in the preparation of policies, standards and regulations for operation and planning. Prior to that, he served as a Director of Systems and Operations in the DART Agency responsible for the development of BRT infrastructure in the city of Dar es Salaam. Engineer Shauri is a qualified and registered civil engineer with the Tanzania Engineers Registration Board and has accumulated vast experience working in various departments within the Government of Tanzania dealing with roads and transport infrastructure projects in various capacities. Particularly was involved in the implementation of the Urban Sector Engineering and Urban Sector Rehabilitation Projects, funded by the World Bank, where he served as Assistant Project Manager and Project Engineer respectively dealing with the review of designs, engineering reports, contract documents, procurement and supervision of rehabilitation of roads and streets in nine municipalities and certification of works done by road contractors. In this tenure, he was also engaged in planning, management, supervision and maintenance of district and feeder roads under the jurisdiction of Local Government Authorities. In 2002, he joined the University of Birmingham in UK and graduated with MSc. Construction Management. He joined ITDP in 2019 as a Transport Planning Consultant in Dar es Salaam.
