The Institute for Transportation and Development Policy (ITDP) presented at two events during the biannual World Urban Forum organized by UN Habitat in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The World Urban Forum is considered the premier conference on cities. The Forum was established by the United Nations to examine one of the most pressing problems facing the world today: rapid urbanization and its impact on communities, cities, economies, climate change and policies. The theme for Rio 2010, The Right to the City:  Bridging the Urban Divide is in harmony with UN-HABITAT’s flagship report, State of the World’s Cities 2010-2011.

Michael Replogle, ITDP Global Policy Director and Founder, was a speaker in the Urban Researchers’ Roundtable: Bridging the Urban Transport Divide. The roundtable discussion examined the state of the current urban transport divide in both developing and developed countries and innovative practices and policies to bridge this gap. ITDP also organized a workshop session as part of UN Habitat’s Training and Capacity Building Branch. The session, entitled “Introduction to Sustainable Urban Transportation: Policy Tools and Latest Trends”, was facilitated by Jonas Hagen of ITDP Brazil, Bernardo Baranda of ITDP Mexico, Carlos Felipe Pardo of ITDP Colombia, and Ze Lobo of Transporte Ativo, a local partner of ITDP Brazil.
