What We DoChennai

ITDP will be assisting Chennai in creating a comprehensive plan for public transit operations including bus route rationalization and expansion, BRT, and integration with the metro and the commuter rail. ITDP’s principal partner is the Chennai City Connect Foundation (CCCF), a non-profit organization co-created by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and local businesses that focuses on the sustainable development of Chennai. ITDP and CCCF will collaborate with various local government bodies and other partners including Anna University and IIT Madras to promote BRT. ITDP is also working with the Chennai Metro Rail Corporation to develop plans for intermodal integration and pedestrian access to metro stations.

ITDP is partnering with a local architecture firm, the Madras Office for Architects and Designers (MOAD), on the design and construction for complete streets, including safe and convenient cycle lanes and footpaths, in the Anna Nagar neighborhood.

ITDP is advising the state government of Tamil Nadu on the adoption of pedestrian and cyclist-friendly street design guidelines as well as on a feasibility report for the Chennai BRT.
