Two Ghanaians, Joseph Annan and Mohammed Aminu, were able to compete in this year’s Cape Epic, South Africa’s largest mountain bike race, after receiving two mountain bikes sponsored by Trek Bicycle Corporation. The Cape Epic awarded Annan and Aminu with entries to the race and air tickets to South Africa, and ITDP handled their logistics in South Africa.

“Your offer came at the time when it was needed most and this will enthuse the sporting spirit of the many cyclists in Ghana to look beyond our borders,” said Francis Kpesenu, the Secretary General of the Ghanaian Cycling Association. “It is our fervent hope that our maiden entry into the competition will open the doors to more prestigious global events for our cyclists.”

Annan and Aminu, from Accra and Tamale respectively, trained on their Trek bikes after receiving them in early March.
