The comprehensive Sustainable Transport Improvement Program in Lima, Peru was approved for $7.83 million in GEF funding on May 15. The project a joint effort by local government, multi-lateral organizations and NGOs focuses on improving quality of life, reducing emissions and improving the city's economic viability by investing in sustainable transport.

The four-year project includes programs to promote bicycle use and improve bicycle infrastructure, lower the cost of public transportation, and build support within the municipality for sustainable transport. The city also plans to re-initiate a program that provided micro credits for bicycle purchase.

To continue with the collaborative planning process, three events have been planned to bring together project stakeholders. The first was organized by the National Environmental Fund (FONAM), the organization chosen to spearhead the project, in April. Two more events will be held in June and September.
