Guadalajara is Mexico’s second largest city. Macrobus, the city’s Bus Rapid Transit system opened in March 2009, with a 16 km corridor, the first of three planned lines, that when complete will total 81 km. All stations have passing lanes, which allow for express bus service to make limited stops, passing local stops without getting stuck behind local service buses. The system is integrated with the city’s light rail system. The full-featured first line was completed in less than two years and at an affordable cost.
